As announced by IELTS Partners on the website ielts.org*, the IELTS on Paper test (hereinafter referred to as the IELTS Paper version) will be discontinued around mid-2026 and replaced by the IELTS on Computer test (hereinafter referred to as the IELTS Computer version).

Specifically, the IELTS Paper version will be discontinued at test centres in Tokyo Metropolitan Area and Osaka Prefecture after the end of August 2026, and at all other prefectures after the end of June 2026.
This policy is based on the decisions of IELTS Partners and applies to all IELTS Paper versions administered in Japan by the British Council, IDP Education, and their respective official test centres.
Detailed test schedules for each test centre will be announced on the websites of the respective IELTS testing organizations as soon as they are decided. Please check these websites for updates.
After the paper-based IELTS exam is completed, we request that you take the IELTS on Computer exam.
