Specifically, IELTS Paper will be discontinued at test centres in the Tokyo metropolitan area and Osaka Prefecture after the end of August 2026, and in all other prefectures after the end of June 2026.

This policy is based on decisions made by IELTS Partners and applies to all IELTS Paper versions administered in Japan by the British Council, IDP Education, and their respective official test centres.

Detailed test schedules for each test centre will be announced on the websites of the respective IELTS testing organizations as soon as they are finalized. Please refer to these websites for the latest updates.

Following the discontinuation of IELTS Paper, test takers will be required to take IELTS Computer.
