About the course

Level: Advanced or Upper-Intermediate & Advanced

This course is for those who already have a high level of English and want to maintain and improve their level whilst discussing the latest world news and issues. 

In each lesson, you will read newspaper articles or watch videos about a current topic. You will use real news sources. In doing so, you will focus on useful collocations and vocabulary to help you understand news in English more deeply. You will have plenty of opportunities to discuss these issues with classmates. This course will help you to understand a range of current affairs topics while improving your ability to express your own thoughts and opinions.

Learning outcomes

On this course you will:  

  • read and listen to authentic texts
  • build up your knowledge of collocations and vocabulary
  • improve your ability to discuss more complex topics

Example topics:

Topics are chosen by the teacher based on what is in the news. Example topics include environmental issues, crimes, human rights, scientific breakthroughs, scandals, politics, and conflicts.
