The British Council promotes a strategic partnership between Japan and the UK by providing opportunities for stakeholders to discuss shared issues and strategies relating to the internationalisation of higher education.

International conferences

Going Global is an open forum for global leaders of international education to discuss current issues. Since 2004, it has grown from a biennial event in the UK to an annual event alternating between the UK and major international cities.

There is a growing awareness of the importance of global human resources among higher education institutions, government and industry in both Japan and the UK. We work across both countries with stakeholders involved in global skills development.

University reputation management

Universities in the UK and throughout the world strive to promote their values and strengths to a global audience through international reputation management and branding. We provide opportunities for Japanese university representatives to learn about existing initiatives and exchange opinions with their international counterparts in this area.

UK inward mission for Japanese universities

We provide a training programme for representatives of Japanese universities with an international remit to visit the UK thereby deepening the representatives’ understanding of the UK higher education system and the internationalisation initiatives of British universities.
