The link to the online registration page is in the bottom of the page. Please carefully read the below important notice before proceeding to the online registration.
After you have pre-booked your test online, you will receive an automatic email ‘Acknowledgement of Receipt of IELTS Test Application’. By three days prior to your test day, you will receive an email ‘Confirmation of completion of IELTS registration and acceptance of application’. Please contact exams@britishcouncil.or.jp if you do not receive those emails.
Your Passport
- When making an online application, you must input test taker’s valid passport details. The valid passport that you use for online application must also be valid on your test day.
- On your test day, you must bring test taker’s valid original passport which is the same valid passport that you used for your online application.
- You will not be admitted to the test session if there is any discrepancy on your passport details. Please carefully check your passport details on your Mypage account. If there is any discrepancy between your passport details and your online application, you must inform us by sending a scan of your passport photo page by email exams@britishcouncil.or.jp. The deadline is 14:00 two days before your test day.

If your passport has been renewed after completing online registration, you must inform us by sending a scan of your new passport by email exams@britishcouncil.or.jp. The deadline is 14:00 two days before the test day.
- If you need to renew your passport or use it for visa purposes, please make sure to plan that ahead so that you can take your valid original passport to your test day. In an event that your passport is being held at an immigration office for visa processing, please request to have it returned to you before your IELTS test day so that you can sit the test. We will not accept any other forms of identification including Letter of Authorization or Acknowledgement from the Immigration Department, university, or college or Certified True Copy of your original passport.
