The current star dancers of the Royal Ballet will come from the UK to Tokyo for a gala performance. The principals and first soloists will perform their own unique interpretations of emotion-filled and technically demanding scenes from a wide range of the company’s most famous ballets, including Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, and The Firebird. The production of this performance has been undertaken by Hikaru Kobayashi, the first Japanese dancer to graduate from the ballet school of the Paris Opera who went on to become first soloist with the Royal Ballet before retiring in 2018. The program, built around three themes which explore the appeal of ballet from multiple perspectives, and videos between scenes introducing the background of the pieces and the thoughts of the dancers make this ballet performance easily approachable.
Dates: Friday 31 January and Saturday 1 February 2020
Venue: Showa Women’s University Hitomi Memorial Hall (in Japanese)
