About Yokohama - New Directions in English Language Assessment

Yokohama is located in the centre of Japan, on the Pacific Ocean and just south of Tokyo. The city is Japan’s second most populous with 3.7 million inhabitants. It has served as an important trading port since 1859 and was one of the first cities connecting Japan to the rest of the world. It boasts a wide variety of entertainment options, a rich food scene, and easy access to the rest of the country. 

Apart from its port, Yokohama is perhaps best known for its sprawling Chinatown, one of the biggest in the world with nearly 500 Chinese restaurants and shops. There are also parks, entertainment districts, and more to explore in this fascinating seaside city. 

The New Directions 2019 venue is in the PACIFICO Yokohama, one of the largest convention centres in the world. The PACIFICO Yokohama is located in the Minato Mirai 21 district of Yokohama, surrounded by water, greenery, and complete with a variety of accommodation, restaurant options, and more. The conference centre is a short train ride from Haneda airport and downtown Tokyo.
