Since 2015, the British Council has partnered with BFI Flare London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, the world's largest online film festival celebrating LGBTQIA+ themed films. Each year the British Council hosts an online showcase of five short films selected from the festival programme. This online film festival is entitled 'Five Films For Freedom' and invites people from all over the world to watch the films through the British Council’s network, operating in over 100 countries, with the message 'Love is a human right'.
This Alumni UK event has been organised to mark the 10th anniversary of the Five Films For Freedom programme, and we are inviting UK Alumni in Japan to a special screening on Wednesday 13 March 2024. In the special talk preceding the screening, guest speakers will talk about the challenges the LGBTQ+ communities and their allies face in the working environment, referencing Japan and UK contexts. An informal reception will follow the screening, giving participants the opportunity to exchange opinions on the films and talks, and to meet other UK Alumni.
