All of our passionate and dedicated teachers meet the highest international standards with formal qualifications and extensive experience in teaching English to children.

Our minimum requirements for teachers are:

  • education to degree level or equivalent qualification
  • a certificate level qualification in teaching English as a foreign language such as Cambridge University CELTA or Trinity College London CertTESOL
  • at least two years’ teaching experience
  • high proficiency in the use of the English language

Ansana Maharajh

I started teaching in 2016 right after finishing university in Trinidad and Tobago. I have mainly taught in Nicaragua, France, Colombia, and now in Japan. I am also a teacher trainer and academic manager. The best part of being in the classroom is building a community where we all learn from each other.

Qualifications: MA in Professional Development for Language Education, TYLEC, DELTA (Distinction), CELTA, BA (Hons) in Spanish and Communication Studies.

Alex Buckley

I have been teaching English since 2011. I have worked with adults, teenagers and children in the UAE, Vietnam, and Japan. Most of my experience with young learners has been with elementary school students, and I’m also currently teaching at a private elementary school for the British Council. I appreciate children’s enthusiasm and their curiosity about the world. Let’s try our best to improve our English!

David Lynch

David Lynch

Before teaching, I worked as a games journalist in the U.K. writing for magazines and websites. I have been teaching since 2013. I have taught children in the U.S., Poland, Italy, and in Japan, I have taught at several high schools. I'm excited to explore English with my new students. There is so much to learn and so many exciting ways to do it. I love teaching English with technology, such as coding and Minecraft.

Ben Maynard

Ben Maynard

I started teaching conversational English about 18 years ago. I have since worked as a high school Japanese teacher in Australia, a high school English teacher in Japan and most recently, a university lecturer. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, gardening, computer games and karaoke. I love both teaching and learning languages and enjoy sharing the beautiful and fascinating English language with young learners.

Qualifications: BA, Grad Dip Ed (Secondary), MA Applied Linguistics & TESOL

Lyndsay Pope

Lyndsay Pope

I have taught English for 12 years. I have taught everything from conversation to IELTS and taught students from young to old. I enjoy living in Japan and visiting new places. I like seeing how students progress with their English skills over time. 

Qualifications: DELTA. I'm currently studying for an MA in Teaching. 

Mike Turner

Mike Turner

I have been teaching in Japan since 2011 focusing on young learners. I have worked with a range of ages and levels and can say that I truly love what I do. I have worked at private universities, junior high schools, managed international kindergartens and headed training programs to help new teachers reach their potential. I look forward to meeting all of you in the classroom and helping you to be more confident and outgoing people outside of it.
