Project-Based Hourly-Paid University Teacher (Tokyo)

The British Council is looking for qualified and experienced teachers to join our offsite teaching team at a Japanese university in the west of Tokyo (Kunitachi). From April 2020 to January 2021 you will teach weekday afternoons and evenings over two 13-week semesters. You will not be required to teach during the summer break between semesters (late July to early September). Please note that you will be paid by the teaching hour, and during semester time only. Weekly schedule during semester time (17.5 hours of teaching):
Mon: 2 classes – 15.15-17.00 and 17.10-18.55
Tues: 2 classes – 15.15-17.00 and 17.10-18.55
Wed: 3 classes – 13.15-15.00 and 15.15-17.00 and 17.10-18.55
Thurs: 2 classes – 15.15-17.00 and 17.10-18.55
Fri*: 1 class – 15.15-17.00
*Friday has an hour weekly team meeting before Period 4 starts.
This role is only open to applicants who have current permission to live and work in Japan. Previous experience teaching at a Japanese university is required.
In addition to teaching, post holders will work alongside a team of other British Council teachers, and are expected to work closely with them in lesson planning and materials development. Post holders also need to undertake duties related to assessment and record keeping and be available for a one-hour meeting each week. Post holders will be paid by the teaching hour for the fixed-term dates of the project and will also receive a project-completion bonus upon successful completion of the contract. Please note that post holders will be paid by the teaching hour, and during semester time only. Interviews are likely to be held one week after closing date.
